About

Mary Tsiongas is a cross-disciplinary artist whose work addresses human relationships to technology, time and the natural environment. Born in Greece and now based in New Mexico, Tsiongas has exhibited and lectured extensively for the past twenty-five years nationally and internationally. Venues include ISEA 2014 in Dubai, the Lincoln Center in New York City, Nevada Museum of Art, Southern Exposure in San Francisco and the McColl Center in North Carolina. She is the recipient of several grants, awards and residencies including a WESTAF NEA grant, and was awarded Women to Watch 2015 by the National Museum of Women in the Arts where her work entitled Likenesses of Light was feature in the exhibition Organic Matters. She held residencies at the Headlands Center for the Arts, the UCROSS Foundation, and in 2024 she’ll be doing a residency at the State Silk Museum in Tbilisi, Georgia.

She received her MFA from California College of the Arts and her BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art & Design.  She initially pursued studies in the sciences and holds a BS in Research Biology from Boston College.  She is a Professor in Electronic Media in the Department of Art where she founded the Experimental Art & Technology area.  She was the chair of the Department of Art from 2013-2016 and Associate Dean of Research at the College of Fine Arts from 2016-2023.
